Update to ILEA Members during the COVID 19 Pandemic

ILEA sends greetings and best wishes for the well being as well as the health and safety of ILEA members and their colleagues, families and friends. We certainly are hopeful for a manageable future for everyone worldwide and thoughts are also with those in our programs who may have family members locally and overseas coping with the current context.

Some have been asking for ILEA to ask the Ministry about how to record missed sessions due to school closures. At this time, the executive have discussed this and have shared with members the wording currently appearing on Continuing Education registers that most have interpreted as meaning to be a “C” designation that is what is recorded when sessions are cancelled during an emergency. However, ILEA members have taken to an online forum to provide input and discuss this practice as information becomes more available.

The online forum for institutional members hopes to open up other areas for discussion:

  • promoting online language learning development in the absence of face to face instruction (tips and resources)
  • sharing of best practices for communicating with a wide variety of programs and learners and community partners
  • other topics as identified by the membership

Institutional members may continue to communicate with ILEA at info@ilea.ca and once more discussion has unfolded, ILEA will update its membership with a summary of these discussion points.

Stay safe.
